We have permission to use the Women's Connection supplies at the Music School for our meetings,
so long as we provide some compensation for our use of the supplies. These supplies are stored
on the cupboard on the second floor. There is tea, coffee and sugar. There is often usable milk and
cream in the fridge in the kitchen as well.

For May 20, 2009 we will read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

This book has already started to arrive. Hallelujah!

"Jeffrey Eugenides’ expansive and radiantly generous second novel … feels rich with treats, including some handsome writing….One of the delights of Middlesex is how soundly it’s constructed, with motifs and characters weaving through the novel’s various episodes, pulling it tight. The book’s length feels like its author’s arms are stretching farther and farther to encompass more people, more life…. It is a colossal act of curiosity, of imagination and of love." —The New York Times Review of Books

Maureen Wright will lead the discussion and Rosemary B. and Vera K. will provide refreshments.

In aid of our decision to read some humour over the summer, may I suggest some of the Stephen Leacock award winners - for Canadian humour? Please see leacock.ca/WINNERS.htm
or do a search under "humorous books" on Amazon.com

Happy reading!

April 8, 2008 3pm
Our tea with authors Edith and Theresa on Tuesday, April 8 is still a go. Joanne, Carol and Evelyn have volunteered to bring desserts. We are getting together at Margi S.'s house at 3:00. We are all excited to have the opportunity to spend some time with them.

CAR POOL please
Also it might be a good idea to suggest some car pooling....and to leave the entrance at the bottom of the drive free for Theresa and Edith - i.e. if folk park close to the house garage that is just great - we can get 5-6 cars in there double parked.....but leave a space at the front door for them to drive down on the level.....it is possible to park along the drive and leave room for a car to drive past, two plus can park in front of the big garage on the apron and there is room for 3 or 4 tucked in by the trailer and dirt pile - just drive right in there and double park....

January 2008 Women’s Connection Book Club
Karen D.’s home

For the first time we had “perfect attendance” (with a guest) to discuss How to Make an American Quilt by Whitney Otto. Thank you to Helen C. for leading the discussion.

The agenda for the remainder of the year was distributed.

If you are interested in going to the movies to see The Kite Runner or Atonement, please contact Linda P. 883-9313, djpearson(deletethis)@dccnet.com.

Karen volunteered to prepare the notes on the other books we’ve read. They’ll come under separate cover.

Vera suggested providing everyone members’ phone numbers and email addresses. It is coming as a PDF file separately. (Sorry I’m not savvy enough to change it to Word.)

The next book will be Fishing with John, by Edith Iglauer; discussion led by Margi S. on February 20, 2008 at Carol E.'s – 12430 Whitestone. She did such a great job of providing a map, that I’m forwarding it separately to you as well.

The books have been ordered, so you’ll be hearing from the Reading Centre in a week or two.
